Cboe Withdraws Application For Listing Bitcoin ETF VanEck-SolidX
The Chicago Board Options Exchange (Cboe) has withdrawn an application for a rule change that would allow a Bitcoin ETF proposed by VanEck and SolidX to be released on its platform. Relevant notice was published on the website of the Commission for securities and US exchanges (SEC).According to the publication, the proposal was withdrawn yesterday, January 22, but the SEC released this information only today. The regulator does not give reasons for the decision of Cboe in its message.
The initial proposal to launch a Bitcoin ETF was issued by investment firm VanEck and technology solutions provider SolidX last June. The SEC postponed the decision-making timeline several times - the final date should have become February 27.
Previously, some lawyers suggested that in the context of the suspension of the US government, the regulator, unable to consider the proposed rule change, would not allow it to receive automatic approval and make a negative decision..
According to sources, the decision to withdraw the proposal was dictated by the fact that its initiators realized the impossibility of a positive outcome at the moment and might want to avoid a negative precedent for further proposals..
