European Commission warns EU residents about the risks of cryptocurrency investing
The European Commission has warned investors about the risks of investing in cryptocurrencies. Writes about it Reuters.
Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis said that hesitation bitcoin rate cause him concern, noting that digital currencies not provided by any issuer or government.
«In recent weeks, we have increasingly paid attention to bitcoin. It carries obvious risks for investors and consumers associated with the volatility of its exchange rate.», - he said, among the risks highlighting the likelihood of a complete loss of investment, operational and security miscalculations, market manipulation, as well as risks due to the lack of financially responsible persons.
«Investors should be aware that it can fall at any moment. Virtual currencies such as bitcoin, – these are not real currencies».
Dombrovskis also said that he contacted European regulators involved in the supervision of the banking industry and financial markets and asked them to issue relevant warnings about the risks of investing in bitcoin..
