As it turned out during a conference call from the developers on May 29, they were unable to launch the testnet on the scheduled date of May 26, because several EIPs were not included in the system. Because of this, the launch of the main test network, which was supposed to take place on next week, also postponed.

The testnet was supposed to run for six weeks, after which the developers could move on to launch the update in July. Since the preliminary version of the testnet has not even been launched yet, the update, likely, will be shifted to early autumn.

This fork is required to launch Ethereum 2.0 phase zero, as it contains the signature update for the deposit contract on the existing blockchain. The timing of the launch of the updated Ethereum 2.0 testnet remains in question. According to the latest information, this is planned to be done in June.
