MyEtherWallet fraudulent application detected on Google Play
One of the consequences of the growing popularity of cryptocurrencies was the quite understandable desire of users to have access to their wallets on their mobile phones. As always, scammers do not miss the opportunity to get easy money and do their best to push malicious apps into stores for Android and iOS devices..Cybersecurity expert Lucas Stefanko drew the attention of his Twitter followers to the appearance of a malicious copy of the popular Ethereum wallet MyEtherWallet on the Google Play platform.
As Stefanko explains, the dubious application requires you to enter a private key or mnemonic phrase to gain access to the wallet..
According to Google Play, the app was downloaded on January 18th. It has already been downloaded from 100 to 500 people.
Fortunately, users became suspicious pretty quickly and told about the true purpose of the application in the comments..
Despite all its dubiousness, the application managed to get a fairly high rating - 3.8 with 32 positive reviews.
"By the way, there is no official MyEtherWallet app yet," Stefanko writes..
As a reminder, a phishing exchange app was previously discovered on Google Play cryptocurrencies Poloniex.
